Business

Well, I feel bad not having posted anything here, and since I'm trying to fill in those areas of the website that have remained a bit untouched for a long while now, this section deserves my attention.

Current Job

Right now I'm what you would call "between jobs" ... I have several bids at the moment, so I'm not really sure what I'll be doing, but I will probably end up working for Dr. Alec Yasinsac in the Computer Science Department at FSU. He has a few projects that he's tossing around right now, including a review of wireless Internet technology ... definitely fun stuff.

Stuff I Do

Since I'm the "Jack of all trades" kinda guy, I like to have a little variety in the kind of business I conduct. My experience has ranged from theatrical sound and lights to web or graphic design. In some manner, however, I usually involve the use of a computer or other digital or electronic device — after all, it is the age we live in, no? As far as computer stuff goes, here is a flier to take a look at which describes some of the kinds of things I offer for 35$ per hour (a very nominal rate, even for Tallahassee):

Computer Consulting Flier [PDF]

I basically own and operate my own technical consultation corporation convieniently called "Virtually Speaking" which I used to have a website up for, but the hosting provider sucked, so I let it run out. One of these days, I'll get around to hosting a real website on a dedicated domain, but I'm a cheap student for now.

Previous Jobs

General Dynamics

I worked for the Land Systems Division of General Dynamics in Tallahassee, Florida for about 2 years. Despite the ambiguous name, the job was rather far from uninteresting. The company essentially works on a handful of vehicles contracted by the US Government for Army use and otherwise. I directly worked on testing and diagnosing electronic circuit card components that become parts of Abrams M1A2 tanks and vehicles like the AAAV (Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle). If you're interested in some bland media PR and a badly designed and, again, ambiguous website, you can check them out here.

I can definitely say they have given me a better background of experience in cable-making and complex electronics. I was officially a "Test Technician", but I ended up doing quite a lot more than that, as was also true at Cybermark. While I did do some drone work on cable harnesses and laborious unit testing, I was also able to produce my own web-based test interface for a new test station in development. I built it from the ground up on top of a customized Visual Basic HTTP server. Before Christmas, I also worked on programming utilities for conversion of Visio 2002 drawings into XML or CSV sheets for use in manufacturing and troubleshooting.

Cybermark

At one point in time for about 9 months or so, I worked for Cybermark, a company that (you guessed it) NO LONGER EXISTS! :-) I drove them all to early graves. Just kidding, but they did go bankrupt, which is the main reason I am not currently with them. Although they no longer exist, there is a company in town that took over some of their contracts when they flipped a turtle shell called HDO Cardsystems. Cybermark was built on the use of smart cards for university ID programs and other applications that required identification or vending of some sort, but that's a longer story that is worth my time to type. Check out HDO if you're really that bored.

When I worked for Cybermark, my official title was "Intern," so I became everyone's gopher, but I also became a sort-of "human swiss-army knife," which is a phrase Ben Jenkins often uses in my reference. I became the mac-daddy of all that was card printing and design (ie, "Card Production"), random software troubleshooting, PC repair and troubleshooting, phone support for over 50 colleges throughout the country, and other random tasks that involved any and all kinds of convoluted electronic devices or idiots over the phone. All in all, it was quite a good time for 9 bucks an hour – after all, i did have my own cube!

Resume

Yeah, it's available. Email me if you're really interested for some specific reason. I don't post it here for ease of access to large amounts of personally identifiable information containted therein. Perhaps I'll get around to an edited version like the flier above at some point, but it's a bit much to ask for in one morning's work.
